What About Us?

The Learn to Live 19-25 provision at Bodley House, Wayside Crescent, Exeter, opened in September 2016 as a new provision for supporting and developing independence.

A new student comes through the ‘doors’ of  Learn to Live and the service changes according to the aspirations of that student and their supporters. The student and their family are actively involved as equal partners. This organisation is about personalisation – an approach that puts the student at the centre of the decision making process.

Learn to Live is for young adults 19-25 years, with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and/or complex needs. We started with a group of students and their families who expressed their aspirations for the provision and who were at the heart of the early stages of development. We are registered as a Community Interest Company and we have premises in Exeter that are well placed for good community access.

We offer a personalised, bespoke provision responsive to the needs of the individual. It is an inclusive and different specialist service, coordinated and facilitated by an experienced team, which focuses on exploring the wants and needs of the young adult within their local community – drawing on their community wealth and working towards the life they want to lead.

We recognise the barriers to inclusion in everyday journeys and, in social and learning opportunities experienced by our students. We work with them on personalising programmes with communication, PSHE and developing resilience at the heart.
The young adults, their families and their key supporters are all integral to the planning.
